Dental Safety During Covid-19

Be sure your dentist is following all infection control recommendations made by the American Dental Association (ADA), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)

HOW DO YOU KNOW?

ASK

Ask your Dentist if he/she is following all the CDC recommendations to ensure your safety during Covid-19
Ask the staff what precautions the office is taking to be sure you are safe

At a minimum, your dental office should:

Screen each person for Covid-19 exposure upon entering the office
Take the temperature of all patients and staff
Ensure all persons in the office are wearing a mask
Modify waiting room procedures to ensure social distancing
The dentist and staff should change gowns after treatment on each patient
Provide heightened disinfection procedures in treatment rooms and common areas

LOOK

Look around the office to make sure extra precautions are being taken. It should definitely NOT look like "business as usual" in your dental office.
There are many changes that are required, and many are easily visible.

At a minimum, you should see:

Upon entering the office

Everyone is wearing a mask
Everyone is having their temperature taken taken upon entering the office
You have six feet or more of social distancing from other patients at all times
You see hand sanitizer readily available to use

In treatment rooms and during treatment

Your hygienist, dentist and dental assistants are wearing face shields, N95 masks, and gloves
Hygienists and Dentists are changing into fresh gowns after every patient
You are asked to use a special mouth rinse prior to start of treatment
Protective coverings shield equipment and items on shelves and countertops.
